Sumner County Museum Visit

                                                                                                                                Pictures by Haley Carter

On Monday, the staff of Historic Rock Castle set aside part of the day to visit the Sumner County Museum in Gallatin and to take a private tour with John Garrott, local historian who helped in founding the museum nearly forty years earlier.

It was such an honor to listen and speak with him about Sumner County's history, his own history. He took us through all of the three levels of the museum and explained a great deal of artifacts and their histories to us. Towards the conclusion of our tour, Mr. Garrott showed us an item very special to him... the car he first drove nearly seventy years ago. He showed us a photograph of a younger him standing in front of the same car he stands in front of in the picture above. It was such a special moment to see him light-up talking about that car that stood only feet away from him.

There are so many different artifacts in the Sumner County Museum, that it would be a true shame if every resident in the Sumner County area did not at least try to visit such an extraordinary place while they can.

It was great for our site's staff to meet with Mr. Garrott and talk to him about his extensive knowledge of various artifacts of interest to the history of our city and region.

If you would like to schedule a tour with the Sumner County Museum, or would like to take a self-guided tour of their exhibits, you can find out more by following this link: http://www.sumnercountymuseum.org/Home

 We'll see you soon!
